“My House Was Full of Arguments Every Day… Then One Decision Brought Peace Back to My Family”

July 24, 2026

My name is Lydia.

For years, my home was a place where nobody wanted to stay.

People who visited us could feel the tension immediately.

My husband and I had once been deeply in love. We built our home together, celebrated every achievement, and believed nothing could separate us.

But slowly, things changed.

Money problems increased.

Small disagreements became serious arguments.

A simple conversation about bills could turn into hours of shouting.

Our children started spending more time outside because they did not want to hear us fighting.

The worst part was that we were no longer trying to understand each other.

We were only trying to prove who was right.

I began sleeping in another room.

My husband stopped sharing his plans with me.

The warmth that once filled our home disappeared.

One evening, my youngest child asked me a question that broke my heart.

“Mother, why don’t you and Dad laugh anymore?”

I had no answer.

I realized our children were carrying the pain of problems they did not create.

I tried talking to my husband many times, but we always returned to the same arguments.

A close family friend encouraged us to seek guidance from Dr Magongo a traditional healer known for helping families reflect on relationships, forgiveness, and emotional healing through cultural practices.

At first, my husband refused.

Later, after seeing how much the situation was affecting the family, he agreed.

When we arrived, the healer asked us to sit together.

For the first time in months, we sat across from each other without arguing.

He listened to both sides.

He asked about the dreams we had when we first married.

He asked what we missed about each other.

Those questions reminded us that before the problems came, there had been love.

The symbolic ceremony included several traditional items.

A large woven basket was placed between us, containing different colored threads, symbolizing that every family member contributes to the strength of the home.

A wooden bowl filled with millet flour represented unity and the importance of sharing one table.

A pair of carved wooden birds was placed beside us, symbolizing communication and the need to listen before speaking.

A small gourd filled with honey water represented bringing sweetness back into relationships that had become bitter.

The healer also burned dried sage leaves and aromatic tree bark, creating a peaceful environment while prayers for understanding and forgiveness were offered.

Finally, we each held a smooth river shell and promised to speak with kindness even during disagreements.

Before we left, the healer said something simple.

“A home is not destroyed by one argument. It is destroyed when people stop trying.”

Those words followed us home.

We started making small changes.

We ate dinner together again.

We stopped arguing in front of the children.

When disagreements came, we learned to take time and speak calmly.

It was not easy.

There were old wounds to heal.

But slowly, laughter returned.

Months later, my husband surprised me by preparing a family dinner.

Our children laughed around the table, and for the first time in years, our home felt alive again.

Today, we still have problems like every other family.

But we no longer see each other as enemies.

Looking back, I believe the traditional ceremony became a meaningful reminder that healing begins when people are willing to listen, forgive, and rebuild.

The basket, the threads, the shells, and the honey water were symbols of a promise we made—to protect the family we almost lost.

Sometimes the greatest healing is not changing the past.

It is choosing a better future together.
