When I opened my hardware business, I believed hard work alone would guarantee success. For the first three years, everything went according to plan. Customers filled my shop every day, suppliers trusted me, and I dreamed of opening branches across the country.
Then everything began to fall apart.
Within a year, sales dropped sharply. Customers who had been loyal for years disappeared. Every investment I made failed. Goods remained on the shelves for months, while my competitors seemed to thrive. I borrowed money hoping things would improve, but the debts only grew larger.
Eventually, I had to let most of my employees go. It was one of the hardest decisions of my life. Every evening I closed the shop wondering whether it would be the last day my business remained open.
Friends advised me to give up and start over. Some blamed the economy, while others believed I was simply unlucky. I spent many sleepless nights asking myself where everything had gone wrong.
During one conversation with an elderly relative, I was encouraged to seek guidance from Dr. Magongo, who was known in our community for offering traditional and spiritual guidance alongside practical advice. Although I was unsure what to expect, I decided to meet him.
Our conversation was unlike anything I had imagined. Rather than promising instant wealth, he encouraged patience, discipline, and rebuilding trust with customers. He advised me to remain focused, avoid rash decisions, and approach my work with renewed determination while maintaining hope during difficult times.
Over the following months, I began making small but meaningful changes. I improved customer service, reorganized my business, reduced unnecessary expenses, and worked harder than ever before. Slowly, former customers started returning. New opportunities appeared, and I was able to negotiate better terms with suppliers.
The recovery wasn’t overnight, but it was real. Within two years, my business had stabilized. I rehired employees, expanded my stock, and eventually opened another branch in a neighboring town.
Looking back, I believe the guidance I received helped me regain confidence at a time when I was ready to quit. It reminded me that success often comes from combining determination, wise advice, and perseverance.
Today, whenever I meet another entrepreneur facing difficult times, I encourage them not to lose hope. Sometimes the turning point begins with seeking guidance, reflecting honestly on your situation, and finding the courage to start again.
